Definition 3-2 SYSTEM (2-1-2 System)
Classification of the 2-1-2 System
Structure: Two defenders, one center (middle), two wingers.
The central figure (center) usually stays close to the middle.
Important: Clear definition of system terminology (positions and terms such as slot, central line, pocket/half-space).
Objectives of the 3-2 (2-1-2):
Maximally disrupt or prevent the opponent’s breakouts (build-up play).
Focus on spatial control and cutting off simple passing lanes.
The goal is to prevent all scoring chances, not necessarily to win the ball in a specific area.
The center should be dominated – no dangerous passes or runs through the middle should be allowed.
Difference to the 2-2-1: The 2-1-2 is more focused on defense and control rather than counterattacks.
Combination Possibilities
The 2-1-2 system can be combined with other systems, for example:
2-1-2 for forechecking, 2-2-1 for zone defense.
Combination of 2-1-2 and 1-2-2 in pressing situations.
Situation-dependent adjustments within the forechecking setup.
Modern development: Flexibility and quick adaptation between systems are becoming increasingly important.
Conclusion:
Goal-Oriented System Understanding
Flexibility and adaptability are essential in modern floorball.
Clear communication and precise definition of positions within the team are crucial.
